THE 17th ANNUAL LARMON FURNITURE GOLF CLASSIC…

This year, was Held March 20, 2011 at Rocky Point Golf Course, Tampa, Florida
The Annual Golf Classic benefitted the SALESIAN BOYS & GIRLS CLUB — The Larmon Golf Classic fundraising efforts benefitted the Salesian Youth Center Boys & Girls Club, in particular a program named Project Larmon, in honor of Curtis and Beverly Larmon. Established in 1931, Larmon Furniture continues an 80-year history of giving to the community. In keeping with this tradition, 2011 focused on a year-round campaign of giving.

With continued support from the community, Larmon Furniture has contributed over $180,000 over the past 17 years to various Boys & Girls Club Projects. Project Larmon was established by Curtis and Beverly Larmon to provide technology classes for teens, young adults, parents and school drop-outs and a resource center for students to perform research and complete homework assignments.

Each year, the Larmon Furniture Golf Classic brings together corporate sponsors and individual supporters from the community to “tee it up” for charity. The Classic is played in a four-person scramble format, and this year was held at the scenic Rocky Point Golf Course. Participants chose their team or pairings. In addition to the charity fundraising, golfers also compete for prizes from start to finish and enjoyed great food, provided by Steve Gonzalez /The Family Catering.

About Larmon Furniture
There is also a Spanish Facebook page which caters to the ever growing hispanic market frequenting the Waters Ave Store.

Larmon Furniture hopes to use social media to encourage brand engagement for consumers and to spur consumers to talk with one other about all the Larmon Furniture products. For example, consumers can share and comment on photographs of their favorite furniture pieces with other visitors on the company’s Facebook page. We hope this also will help spark conversations among shoppers by posting content, such as the best way to clean furniture.

So many times brands use social media incorrectly and if you do something wrong you don’t get a lot of second chances. Larmon is positioning this as a place consumers can go to for robust information and for fun.

The company plans to market its social media program through in-store promotions and print advertisements.

If your furniture is located near a window, it’s best to use window treatments to avoid fading. Heating and air outlets will also fade fabrics and leather, as well as damage the fibers over an extended period of time.

ROTATE AND FLUFF SEAT AND BACK CUSHIONS REGULARLY

This will prevent the cushion core from wearing prematurely, will preserve the fabric color and control welt slippage.

FABRIC: NEVER TAKE THE CUSHION COVER OFF TO CLEAN

To clean a spill, immediately blot (without rubbing) with a dry, absorbent white cloth. Only use a professional furniture cleaning service when an overall cleaning is needed.

LEATHER: CLEAN WITH A SOFT, DAMP CLOTH

After wiping clean, gently rub with a soft dry cloth to restore the finish. Never use polishes, oils, ammonia, cleaning fluids, solvents or detergents to clean leather upholstery. Professional cleaning is recommended.

Outdoor living and entertaining has always been a favorite during warm weather. The selection of materials and styles for your patio, deck, backyard or garden furniture is as varied as ever. The quality of these furnishings has improved greatly and is reflected in the cost.

General Outdoor Furniture Care Tips

Store patio furniture indoors or cover well when not in use.

Remove wooden furniture from standing water.

Avoid direct contact with damp soil for extended periods.

Hinkle Chairs & Benches

To preserve our standard finish on stained or painted furniture, it is highly recommended that your Hinkle Chair Company products be placed either indoors or in a protected environment such as a covered porch. The product needs to be protected from rain and exceeding amounts of direct sunlight. Please note that if this product is used in an unprotected environment or exposed to excessive elements your warranty will be affected. Note: This paragraph is not applicable to products purchased with the weather resistant Acrylic finish.

Our products need the same attention as any other solid wood furniture. A monthly cleaning with any quality household furniture polish will keep your furniture looking new for many years to come. Should you have issues with the finish such as weathering, general wear, mold or mildew, etc. or to just refresh the look of your product, please see the following general recommendations for application of an additional top coat.

To remove mold and mildew – dilute one part bleach in four parts water and apply with a soft cloth. If necessary, repeat the process after the product is dry.

Replacing the topcoat after this procedure should reduce the probability of mold or mildew returning for some time.

Touch up any blemishes or imperfections that may have occurred.

Lightly scuff sand the entire product by hand with 220 grit sand paper. This process will scratch the surface allowing the new top coat to bond. Use a tack cloth to remove any dust left from sanding, and then wipe down with a good solvent cleaner, such as denatured alcohol.

Apply a coat of Acrylic Crystal Clear or Polyurethane (Warning: Do not use polyurethane on white furniture as it will turn it yellow). Please refer to the manufacturer’s recommendation for application and drying times. Apply a second coat for added protection.

This process can be used on painted or stained items, although a coat of paint may be preferred on painted products that need to be refreshed.

Teak outdoor furniture

Following some simple care suggestions will extend the life of your garden, patio or deck furniture and provide you with the service you expected.

The methods of care for your outdoor teak furniture will differ from the care and maintenance needed for your aluminum patio furniture.

Follow the manufacturers recommendations for cleaning and maintaining the finish at regular intervals. Some outdoor furniture finishes require reapplication at regular intervals. If you are unable to perform the regular maintenance, contact a professional refinisher in your area for assistance.

From college campuses to children’s bedrooms nationwide, the bunk bed is an important piece of furniture for small children and young adults. The reason why the bunk bed is so ubiquitous is that it is a space saver. Instead of spreading two beds over precious ground space in a bedroom or dorm room, beds can be stacked safely to take up half the floor space.

However, bunk beds improperly installed and maintained can be dangerous for those who sleep on them or use them as a study space. There are plenty of tips in order to protect your loved ones from harm in what is supposed to be one of the safest places in their lives: the bedroom.
Bunk Bed Installation

There are some simple steps that can be taken when installing a bunk bed in order to prevent injuries or damage to property. One step is to take careful measurement of the size of the upper bunk, which determines the size of the frame and the lower bunk. Ideally, the top bunk would be equal to or greater than 74″ (6’2″) in length and 38″ (3’2″) in width.

Bunk Bed Installation Tips

Another step is to make sure that the top bunk mattress is not so large that it rises over the guardrail. The best way to ensure this safety measure is to make sure that the mattress and foundation are no larger than 8 inches and that the mattress is at least 5 inches below the guard rail. These measurements ensure that the bunk bed will be balanced, will fit conventional bunk bed frames, and will allow more room for kids as they grow. Though this is a simple step, it is certainly one that people may overlook in looking for the best deal on new beds.

Another step is to install bunk bed safety rails on the long sides of the top bunk. These rails are typically made out of hard plastic or metal, though metal is the safest choice because of its tensile strength. Guardrails should be installed on both sides of the bed, to prevent falls from the bed and to keep the user from getting caught between the bed and the wall.

While rails alone give parents and friends a sense of security, they need to be installed properly in order to maximize safety. Proper installation involves tightening the screws connecting rail to frame as much as possible, doing a test of the rail by pulling on it with your hands, and checking regularly to make sure that the screws have not come loose. These simple steps have been proven to make bunk bed usage much safer.

Bunk Bed Safety Rules

For parents who want to make sure that the bunk bed doesn’t lead to mishaps during playtime, a few simple rules can be set up in order to keep the bed’s integrity intact. The first rule that should be established is that absolutely no horseplay allowed on the bunk bed, most especially on the top bunk. This includes playing games like catch or tag, which can cause undue stress and unnecessary wear and tear on the bed frame. As well, one bad move by a child on the top bunk can cause a broken leg or other serious injuries.

Bunk Bed Safety Rules
Another rule that is important is to prohibit more than one person to be on a bunk bed at one time. Having several people on a bunk can cause the bunk bed to jostle and weaken not only the bed frame, but also the foundation of the top bunk. A good rule of thumb is to make sure that less than 300 pounds is on the top bunk at all times. This may not be a problem for a child, but a group of children or a few college students can easily get up to 300 pounds and beyond.

There are a few more tidbits that can help parents and others determine the safest installation of bunk beds.

Bunk beds should always have ladders or steps leading to the top bunk, which is the safest way to reach the top level of the bunk frame. Some kids and young adults may want to climb up the side of the frame, but this has led to many injuries and broken bed frames from repeated abuse.

Bunk beds should never have water or other flotation devices as part of the mattress because leakage and instability ensue from such beds.
Finally, and most importantly for young children, there should never be any hanging attachments from the ceiling onto the top bunk. Mobiles and other objects hung from the ceiling can be choking hazards or can be harmful if they fall from their fixed positions.

These steps seem like they are common sense, but it is always good to have a checklist of considerations going into any home improvement project. Bunk beds are great space savers and fun for kids, but their proper installation is critical for their maximum efficiency.
